Operation NERD

National Electronics Recycling Day:

The students and staff that created Operation NERD Operation N.E.R.D. is the North Callaway Digital Outreach Program's plan to raise awareness on the state and national level about the dangers of e-waste and the opportunities available to citizens to responsibly dispose of their unwanted electronics. Our goal is to establish a National Electronics Recycling Day.

So far, we have contacted our Senators and Representatives in Jefferson City and Washington. We have also drafted a resolution to recognize N.E.R.D. on the state level.

You may have noticed the picture with the team in our "nerd glasses". We have collected pictures of people who support Operation N.E.R.D. wearing similar glasses. This will become a visual representation of the growing support for our project. Click here to read the draft of our resolution.

The Glasses:

Several of the North Callaway teachers and staff were good enough to pose for a group picture, showing their support for NERD. The glasses are actual reading glasses and after this picture, they were donated to the local Lion's Club.

Nerd update:

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon proclaims March 20, 2010 Electronics Recycling Day!

Be A Nerd:

Not only did most of our staff participate in our NERD campaign, our administrators were good sports too. Pictured below are Superintendent Bryan Thomsen, Principal Carol Green and Asst. Principal Matt Boyer. Mr. Boyer actually got into character by adding a pocket protector!

Release your inner nerd! Send us your picture (in the glasses) and we'll post all of them in our next update!
